A chill sweeps through her and the sway moves her, stronger now. She grasps the wrought iron handrail to steady herself and focuses on the decorative panels: curling vines of oak leaves and acorns. The sway diminishes, leaving behind a hum below the surface of her skin, a familiar loneliness, the longing for something—someone—she cannot name.
